Afterword

Putting the mirror down

That was them. Stories, some of them thousands of years old.

What stands out when you read them one after another is how little people have changed. They were jealous of their brother. They walked on while someone lay there. They pretended not to know their friend once things got tense.

That's maybe not a cheerful thought. But it is a reassuring one. What you feel isn't strange, and it isn't new.

The stories don't solve anything for you. They just help you look at yourself a little more clearly.

Back to ordinary life

Small work

The real work begins once you close this book. Swallowing an unkind remark. Seeking out someone standing alone. Not hitting back, just once. Asking: are you sure about that?

It's not much more than that.

Take one more look in the mirror:

  • Which story are you taking with you in your backpack?
  • What will you do a little differently tomorrow?
  • Who are you, when you look in the mirror?
